Starlink, the satellite internet division of Elon Musk-owned SpaceX, is on the verge of receiving the final regulatory clearance to begin operations in India, according to a report by The Economic Times. India’s National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe) has shared a preliminary agreement with Starlink, which functions as a letter of intent. Once both parties sign the document, Starlink will receive official approval to launch its services in the country, the report adds.
The approval, granted on July 8, allows Starlink to operate its Gen1 satellite constellation in India. This permit will be valid until July 7, 2030. In addition to granting operational approval, IN-SPACe has also allocated specific frequency bands that Starlink can use to transmit internet from its satellites to ground-based users in India. The company has been authorized to use a combination of Ka- and Ku-band frequencies for both uplink and downlink transmissions, essential for maintaining reliable satellite internet connectivity.

Designed primarily for home users, the kit is designed to handle common online activities such as video streaming, virtual meetings, and gaming. Unlimited data subscription plans are expected to be priced between Rs 3,000 and Rs 4,200 per month.
