An IndiGo Delhi-Goa flight (6E 6271) made an emergency landing at Mumbai Airport on the evening of July 16 after its pilot declared the “PAN PAN PAN” alert, an international signal for an urgent but non-life-threatening situation. The diversion was due to a technical failure in one of the aircraft’s engines during the flight with 191 passengers on board.
The flight, an Airbus A320neo with 191 people on board, took off from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport bound for Goa Airport when a mid-flight engine problem forced it to make an emergency landing in Mumbai. The flight landed safely at 9:53 p.m.
Mumbai airport authorities told HT that the incident occurred when the IndiGo flight was flying about 100 nautical miles north of Bhubaneswar.
One of the officials, who requested anonymity, said: “The pilot declared ‘PAN PAN PAN’ (an urgent message indicating a non-life-threatening emergency) due to a malfunction of the number 1 engine.”

On the night of July 16, IndiGo Flight 6E2091, an Airbus A320neo flying from Delhi to Goa, had to be suddenly diverted mid-flight to Mumbai after a technical problem was detected with one of its engines. According to a Hindustan Times report citing an unnamed official, the pilot issued a “PAN PAN PAN” signal to air traffic control due to a malfunction in engine number 1.
On Sunday morning, a SpiceJet flight from Pune to Delhi was forced to abort due to a technical issue after reaching the runway for takeoff. Passengers on board stated that the flight, originally scheduled to depart at 12:00 p.m. on July 13, finally took off around 9:05 p.m., more than nine hours late.
Passengers stated that the aircraft suddenly stopped after taxiing to the runway, causing confusion and concern. The passengers were reportedly trapped on the plane for nearly an hour before being deplanened, only to be re-boarded later that evening. Last week, an IndiGo plane bound for Raipur from Indore, with 51 passengers on board, returned to the airport shortly after takeoff due to a technical glitch, an official said.
The pilot noticed the technical glitch on flight 6E-7295 after the plane took off from Indore and traveled a distance of approximately 60 nautical miles, Vipinkant Seth, director of Indore’s Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport, told news agency PTI.
