How to Join Freemasonry in India?

Joining Freemasonry in India is a personal and thoughtful journey, rooted in values such as fraternity, charity, and moral development. To become a Freemason in India, you must:

  • Be a male, at least 21 years old;
  • Believe in a Supreme Being;
  • Be of good moral character;
  • Have no criminal record;
  • Understand and speak English, as the rituals are performed in English.

Then:

Find a Lodge: Visit the Grand Lodge of India website or the websites of regional lodges (e.g., the Grand Lodge of the District of Bombay) to find a lodge near you.

Express Interest: You can contact the lodge secretary directly or fill out an online form with your contact information.

Meet a Freemason: If you know a Freemason, they may offer you membership. Otherwise, the lodge will guide you.

Interview and Verification: You will be interviewed by members of the lodge to assess your mutual compatibility.

Initiation Ceremony: Upon approval and payment of the fees, you will be initiated as an Apprentice Mason, the first degree of Freemasonry.

Freemasonry in India consists of three main degrees:

    1. Visit the official website: http://www.masonindia.org.
    2. Complete the “Become a Mason” form on the GLI website.
    3. The Lodge will invite you to informal meetings.
    4. If you are serious, submit a formal petition.
    5. Existing members (usually two) will recommend you.
    6. A small committee will meet with you to verify your understanding of the principles of Freemasonry and whether you are joining for the right reasons.
    7. If your application is approved by the Lodge, you will be invited to an initiation ceremony: you will then become an Entered Apprentice (first level).
