By plane: If you are traveling from Delhi, you can fly to Dehradun Airport. Afterward, you can take a taxi to Rishikesh. Govindghat is well connected by road, so you can take a bus or taxi from Rishikesh to Govindghat.
By train: The nearest train station to Govindghat is Rishikesh, 270 km away. Govindghat is accessible by road, so you will find taxis and buses to Srinagar, Joshimath, and many other destinations.
By road: If you are traveling from Delhi, you will easily find buses to Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Srinagar. After reaching these places, it is easy to reach Govindghat, which is connected by NH-58.
The total distance of the Hemkund Sahib route from Govindghat is 20 km. It is divided into two parts: from Govindghat to Ghangaria and from Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib. Govindghat is the starting point for the Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib yatra. There you will find hotels, a gurdwara, and a small market.
To reach Hemkund Sahib, you must walk 14 km from Govindghat. You can also avoid a 4 km walk by reaching the village of Pullna by car or taxi. If you wish to avoid the entire Ghangaria hike, you can take a helicopter to the Ghangaria helipad and continue the second leg of the yatra.
Step 1: Travel from Delhi to Govindghat
Govindghat is the last passable point before starting the route.
By Road: Drive or take a bus via NH334 and NH7. The distance is approximately 500 km, and the journey takes 12 to 14 hours, depending on traffic and weather.
By Train: Take a train from Delhi to Haridwar or Rishikesh. From there, take a taxi or bus to Govindghat (approximately 10-12 hours by road).
By Air: Fly to Jolly Grant Airport (Dehradun). Then, drive to Govindghat (approximately 290 km, 10-12 hours).
Step 2: Drive from Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib
From Govindghat to Ghangaria: A 13-km drive that takes 6 to 8 hours. Mule and helicopter services are available if needed.
From Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib: A steep 6 km hike. This section is more difficult due to the altitude (4,632 meters).
Best time to visit: May to October is ideal. The Gurudwara is open during this period, and June and September offer the best weather.
